10 Reasons Nobody Cares About The Kinect

4. No Controller

Oddly enough, the defining aspect of the Kinect is actually its Achilles Heel. Microsoft markets the Kinect on the idea that you are the controller, and because of this, it offers a more precise and simple gaming experience, but it turns out that this isn€™t actually the case. Anyone who has used the Kinect will tell you that, because of its ability to pick up even the smallest of movements with precision, players actually lack the precision that comes from a standard controller. Imagine trying to pull off a head shot using the Kinect. Your hands would be shaking ever so slightly, and so the reticule would be shaking as well. Oddly enough, the analog sticks of a controller are able to pull off such a simple task with great ease; it€™s just about being accustomed to the controller. Of course, this scares away the casual gamer, hence the existence of motion controls and the Kinect. Gamers know that getting acquainted with controls is a process of learning and memorization. Each time we put in a new game, we go through this process. Kinect seeks to skip this process through streamlining via motion controls, but they ironically give us less control. Gamers instinctively know this, and thus have no reason to have interest in the Kinect. Controllers are just better.
