3. Kinect Star Wars

I know I cant be the only one who immediately thought how awesome a Star Wars lightsaber game would be using the Kinect. As soon as the device was announced, such an idea was on the minds of many gamers. This shouldnt come as a surprise, as the device is practically tailor made for that type of game. Despite the many great Star Wars games released in the past, none of them have yet to capture the feeling of actually wielding a lightsaber like a true Jedi, but with the Kinect, this became a distinct possibility. We knew a Star Wars game would be announced at some point, it was only a matter of time. Sure enough, LucasArts announced Kinect Star Wars at E3 in 2011, and on April 3rd, 2012, it was released. If there ever was a game to properly actualize the potential of the Kinect, this was it. Instead of greatness, what we got is a collection of Star Wars mini-games. Yep, thats about it. Yes, there is a Jedi section, but it was a rail shooter with a lightsaber. No character, no story, no strategy, no challenge, just a casual game meant for kids, and any hopes of tapping into the Star Wars kid in all of us were dashed. That wasnt the worst part. Kinect Star Wars also gave us this: http://youtu.be/QaVrAw1-zrY Ummmwhat?! Honestly, Ive never been as disturbed as I am seeing Princess Leia dance to a Gwen Stefani knock off song. As if the Kinect wasnt drenched in dance games already, Lucas decided to sell out even more and give us this travesty. I can safely say that no one on this planet ever wanted a Star Wars dance game. No one. With Kinect Star Wars, any hope that the Kinect would register outside of the casual and reach the potential of motion controls were now gone. It gave those who already questioned its existence even more fuel, and turned those who had hope into cynics. Perhaps it was the limitations of the technology, or perhaps it was the developers lack of time or effort, but Kinect Star Wars, more than anything else, showed that the Kinect is nothing more than a glorified paper weight. Since its release, what little interest was left is now gone. Unfortunately nobody cares about the Kinect anymore, and for good reason.
