10 Reasons Super Mario World Is The Best 2D Mario Of All Time
6. More Enemies Than Ever Before
The Super Mario franchise has become famous for its wide variety of baddies that players can jump over, burn through or stomp on through their levels. From Goombas in the Mushroom Kingdom, Dry Bones in Bowser's castles, Boos in Haunted Houses and Bloopers in the underwater auto-scrollers, no Mario platformer is complete without most of these bad guys popping up and trying to trip up players.
However, by the fourth game in the series, it's fair to say that gamers around the world were looking for some more variety in their Super Mario villains.
Chargin' Chucks, Banzai Bills, Fuzzys, Wigglers and Urchins were all amongst some of the new enemies added specifically to Super Mario World, and all of them have become staples in the 2D and 3D Mario games that have followed on.
Again, this all fits in with Nintendo's goal of creating a game that felt so much more expansive, diverse and alien to the Mario games that had come before World. All of the new enemies fit in seamlessly with the returning baddies, as well as helping to create some more technically impressive levels.
