10 Reasons The Division 2 DESTROYS Anthem
8. The Open World Feels Truly Alive
There's no denying that Anthem's world - which still remains curiously unnamed - is absolutely gorgeous, especially when experienced in 4K HDR. That said, it's all surface-level beauty, and there's precious little interesting going on while exploring the ruinous world.
Where are the neat "random" encounters, the NPCs, the varied enemies and everything else which makes an open world feel inviting and alive? It just feels so barren, desolate and, honestly, a giant waste of the clear talent assembled to render this planet.
This is a really strong suit of The Division 2 by comparison: Washington D.C. is an easy match for the previous game's New York City, exploiting the city's naturally iconic status and also giving it a neat post-apocalyptic makeover.
But beyond the aesthetic, D.C. feels expansive and buzzing with activity: you can't go more than a few steps without stumbling on a collectable piece of lore or an event requiring your attention.
