10 Reasons The Evil Within 2 Is The Best Survival Horror Of The Decade

6. Balancing Resi-Like Camp And Genuine Scares

The Evil Within
Bethesda

Although the marketing for The Evil Within has been very serious in its tone and presentation, from the opening hour it's clear that the sequel has retained the same sense of camp and love for B-movie aesthetics the first game had.

So while the title will very much try to scare you silly by racking up the tension during key moments, it will also take the time out afterwards to treat you to some intentionally hammy dialogue or throw an enemy at you with a sick sense of humour.

There's a real Twin Peaks vibe to the whole thing; when it wants to be scary and horrible it can be, but Evil Within 2 also revels in silly quirks like the way the main character gets health back by drinking coffee in his down time.

It's a fine rope to walk, but the dark humour at the heart of The Evil Within 2 only adds to the unpredictable nature of the whole experience.
