10 Reasons The Evil Within 2 Is The Best Survival Horror Of The Decade

5. Monster Designs Are Amazing

The Evil Within 2
Bethesda

While the original game had some pretty interesting monster designs, for the most part there was nothing to distinguish its rogues gallery from those found in titles like Resident Evil or Silent Hill.

The Evil Within 2 on the other hand takes the base designs from the first release and makes them much more memorable. There's still the grotesque focus on body and J-hororr, but each design feels distinct to the enemy type. Unlike the last game, when the screen does start to fill up the enemies don't all blend into one big mass of puss and chomping teeth.

The designs are still familiar to other franchises, for sure, but The Evil Within manages to inject just enough of its own personality into these tried-and-tested looks to make them feel original and fresh.
