10 Reasons The Evil Within 2 Is The Best Survival Horror Of The Decade

7. Combat Works As Both Action And Survival Horror

Unlike other survival horror games, The Evil Within 2 isn't afraid to kit players out with powerful weapons. Hell, even after a couple of hours you'll be able to get your hands on a pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle and even a crossbow that fires harpoons, electric bolts and explosive rounds.

It might seem like too much, too soon, but the sequel never sacrifices intense, intelligent combat encounters for balls-to-the-wall action. Instead, ammo conservation tends to offset such an array of powerful weapons.

Sure, you could use your last two explosive bolts to take out a few enemies easily, but you might be screwed in half an hour if a huge, hulking beast happens to be standing in the way of you and your objective.

Not only is the game's combat smartly designed though, it also feels incredible in motion. Shotguns kick hard, while the crunch of a headshot feels as satisfying the sixtieth time as it did the sixth. Always scrappy and weighty, The Evil Within has set the new standard for survival horror combat going forward.
