It's vintage in the best sense, and the eagle eared players will even recognise an entire bank of classic sound effects.
It even contains a whole host of references you thought you forgot, including that sneaky old trick of have a second Cacodemon hiding directly behind the one you just killed.
For the old timers, it's an invigorating ride. Despite being loaded with treats from the past, none of it detracts from the modern freshness of the game. In short, they got the balance just right.
