10 Reasons Why We Need A Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake

2. Fresh take on Chris Redfield

From the very start, there’s been a concerted effort to make Chris Redfield the star of the Resident Evil series, but it still feels as if he’s waiting for his defining moment. Jill had RE3, and Leon had RE4, but Chris’s games feel less about him than those examples; you could sub in any other Resi protagonist into Resident Evil 5 and it would be largely unchanged.

The character has always been somewhat one-dimensional; an off the shelf action hero directly inserted into the chewy middle of the franchise. RE5 featured some vague allusions to Chris losing a squad he commanded prior to that game, but once again there’s too much implied character development between games rather than during the game.

Chris even managed to turn up at the end of RE7 and muscled his way into that game’s DLC as well.

Chris has featured heavily in the promo material for RE Village so maybe that will be the game where he gets some much-needed depth.

The recent remakes have excelled in reimagining characters, so it would be interesting to see what they'd do with Chris in a CODE: Veronica remake.
