10 Reasons Xbox Series X Has ALREADY Won The Next Generation War Over PS5
2. Backwards Compatibility
Despite a gesture towards letting gamers play the best of PS4 on PS5, Sony have publicly stated time and again that backwards compatibility is not a priority for them. Microsoft, on the other hand, use the feature as one of their key selling points and rightfully so.
From the basic fact that more games are playable on Xbox's next gen to the more lofty notion of being able to engage with gaming's growing history, backwards compatibility is a major plus for Microsoft.
Titles like Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind are doubtless aged, but important works in the genre nonetheless, and continued access to these titles helps foster a growing sense of gaming as a medium with intrinsic value, artistic and otherwise. And of course there are scores of other games, not just old Elder Scrolls titles (as excellent as they may be).
And if such lofty arguments aren't doing it for you, just consider the basic fact that backwards compatibility simply means more games to play, and that's no bad thing. Sometimes you just have an itch to play something a bit different from the current gen experiences, something a bit more classic and backwards compatibility lets you do just that, without hassle.
