10 Reasons You Should Play This Generation's Worst Video Games
Whether misunderstood, better with friends or enjoyable just to laugh at.
Usually, it’d be a pretty weird sight to see someone both bash a set of games, and then actively encourage you to play them.
However, this list is here to look at the positives, some of the redeeming qualities of this generation’s worst games.
Let’s start off with a clarification. When exactly is this generation? For the sake of consistency, we’ll be looking between 2013 and 2020, as the next generation of consoles will be releasing this year. So, we’ve got the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, all variations of them, the Switch and the timeless desktop computer, housing whichever of the launchers you prefer.
What makes a game bad? Opinions. Mine, that of the critics, reviewers and the general public. Does time play a factor? Of course and in fact, it will play a small role in some of our entries, such as No Man’s Sky and Fallout 76, which have improved since their release.
Other games may not have fared so well but luckily, an absolute monstrosity of a game can sometimes be just as appealing as a masterpiece - particularly when you factor in co-op, discounts or sheer comedic relief.
10. Fallout 76
We’ll start with a game that wasn’t just bad, but that got absolutely destroyed by the masses continuously post-launch. It was, of course, endlessly hyped by Todd Howard. He tried his best not to mention how barren the game would actually be, skirting around there being zero human NPCs and that all quests would be given by robots and holotapes.
Then, the canvas bag incident, collectors edition buyers were greeted with low quality bags. Following this, the game would be ravaged by hackers, bugs, a poor implementation of both building, co-op and PvP, as well as a lacklustre endgame. This endgame being to fire nukes that would crash people’s games and mess the server up even further.
Yet, at the end of the day, Fallout 76 is still Fallout, meaning that any fan, such as myself, will, at one point, want to try the game. With changes and updates, such as the implementation of an actual story and characters, it feels like it could soon be a great time to jump into Fallout 76.
Though, bear in mind, I say 'soon' because there have been longstanding rumours of the game coming to Steam. Plus, the game has taken such a hit to its reputation that a hefty discount is almost guaranteed.
