10 Recent Video Games With Disastrous Launches You Didn't Realise Got Fixed

9. Cities: Skylines II

Cities: Skylines II launched in October 2023 and was immediately raked over the coals by fans for its overwhelming performance issues and litany of bugs, ensuring the sequel felt like a far cry from its polished-at-launch predecessor.

It was painfully clear that the game wasn't ready for prime time, as publisher Paradox Interactive's own CEO even went on to admit.

The game further invoked the ire of the fanbase when, six months after launch with countless issues persisting, the studio put out the Beach Properties DLC, which was panned by players for its lack of meaningful features as well as Paradox's decision to focus on DLC rather than fixing the base game.

As a result, many players simply went back to playing the original game, and it wasn't until last December that Skylines II was meaningfully fixed with the Detailer's Patch, which introduced a bevy of quality-of-life features, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

Yet for some players the damage has clearly already been done, as both Cities: Skylines games have near-equal concurrent player counts on Steam at present, indicating that many never bothered revisiting the spruced-up sequel.
