10 Regular Enemies That Look Intimidating But Are Actually A Bit Rubbish
3. Colossal Ruin - Alice: Madness Returns
A twisted, fire-breathing conglomeration of black, congealed goop, bleached doll parts and misshapen plumbing, all wrapped in the horrid, warped sound of a crying baby, the Colossal Ruin is proper nightmare fuel.
And yet that fearful visage is the very thing that works against it.
In the face of such a frightful enemy, the player’s natural instinct to remain at a distance unwittingly places them in a safe zone. With nearly all of the Ruin’s attacks being limited in range and its lone charge ability easily dodged, one can comfortably stay out of danger while pelting the Ruin’s vulnerable heads – its weak points – using the Pepper Grinder or Tea Pot, the game’s equivalent of a machine gun and grenade launcher respectively. Ultimately one can literally strafe circles around it.
When a Mad Hatter look-alike half the Ruin’s size wearing teacup for a hat requires more lateral thinking to defeat, you can’t help but wish for more. Still, with the truly horrific and disturbing enemies that inhabit the world of Madness Returns, the Colossal Ruin offers a welcome respite amid the insanity.
