10 Regular Enemies That Look Intimidating But Are Actually A Bit Rubbish
2. The Berserker - XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Picture the scene: your squad is pinned down by murderous fire and are unable to advance because of the killing field of half-cover in front of them. Suddenly, two Mutons appear, accompanied by a muscle-bound, red-skinned wrecking ball packing the kind of blades Wolverine himself would be envious of.
Enter the Berserker.
Many an XCOM rookie has panicked at the sight. Take a moment to think, and there’s really no reason to. Being programmed to charge at whichever soldier shoots at it, the Berserker will rapidly gain ground on your squad. As it does your chances of scoring a hit against it improve significantly. Even better, the big oaf is now in grenade range; this being the mid-to-late game, you’re not packing firecrackers any more. Best of all, the Berserker can only attack on its turn.
The result is a game of XCOM pinball with the brainless dolt vainly lumbering back and forth as it is systematically shot to bits. Even if one or two shots miss, a cool head and a few Alien Grenades will still make short work of it. And as a bonus all this can be done without any soldier ever leaving cover.
Though unfair to term any XCOM alien non-threatening, the Berserkers’ rage-fuelled fixation renders it comfortably the easiest to deal with, something decidedly at odds with its fearsome appearance.
