By now, everyone and their mum's heard of Goldeneye on the N64, but No One Lives Forever and its sequel were the other first class spy shooter series from the glory days. Both games are a pair of underrated gems.

Amidst all the ultra violent, gory and serious shooters on the market the adventures of Cate Archer still serve as a nice pallet cleanser.

Most FPS games still aim for an overly serious tone and seem to favour a colour scheme of brown, grey, and more brown. Anyone playing can see this series wears its influences on its psychedelic sleeve; think somewhere in between the campy adventures of Roger Moore's Bond and Austin Powers.

It was funny too, helping it to stand out amidst the ultra serious or non-existent stories common in games. That didn't stand in the way of the action though, NOLF gives as good as it gets as befits a high octane spy thriller.

The first game was ported to PS2, but, as expected, it was inferior. Both games need to cash in on the inevitable spy mania, especially as a new Bond game and movie are on the horizon.
