10 Ridiculous DLC Extras Video Games Expected You To Pay For

3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Mid-Game Story DLC

If you thought charging people for the end of a game was bad enough, how about charging them for the middle of it instead?

That's what Square Enix did with the revival of Deus Ex, adding in the Missing Link DLC slap-bang in the middle of the story.

Now, had you not known about this, you'd just think Jensen had had a mildly inconvenient trip to Panchea, and thought nothing more of it.

Oh, you want to find out what actually happened? Yeah, cough up some more money for that then please.

Late adopters who only had the Director's Cut didn't have this inconvenience to worry about, but for day-one players it was insulting. Well, that and the terrible boss fights.

The backlash was justified, but it didn't stop them pulling the same stunt with Mankind Divided: announcing a planned story DLC available a week after release.

Defenders cited The Missing Link was "optional" and didn't detract from the story, but anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that's rubbish. It's literally advertised as the "missing" part of an otherwise incomplete whole.

If it's important enough to mention in the main game, it should have been part of the main game.
