10 Ridiculous Story Decisions That Ruined Great Video Games

2. Scott Shelby Is The Origami Killer - Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain Quantic Dream again prove their worst enemy, this time in the ambitious, massively impressive interactive drama Heavy Rain. The game has you playing as four different characters while you try to discern the identity of the Origami Killer, who has kidnapped one of the protagonist's children. Half-way through the game, a flashback reveals the killer's past as a child, where his brother drowned in a drain because his drunk father refused to help, while the killer witnessed this helplessly. The killer, it seems, kidnaps kids to test their father's love for them. When it is revealed eventually that one of the four characters, PI Scott Shelby, is the killer, the game basically flips out of control. Aside from retconning a few scenes we'd witnessed earlier, the motive isn't particularly convincing, and it seemed as though David Cage was so desperate to surprise us that he threw logic right out the window.
