10 Ridiculously Overpowered Melee Weapons

When you need to hammer home the point.

If there's one thing more iconic than a video game hero, it's the weapon that they wield. However, when you look across the vast selection on offer, it seems like it's all just guns, guns and even more guns. It's all a bit boring right? What we want is something a lot more personal, a lot more pointy, and a lot more... overpowered.

Hence why we decided to make this list of weapons that aren't handguns, but handheld (sometimes even just being your actual fists), in an effort to give love to the stabbers, pokers and slashers of video games. And also to prove that the power fist truly is mightier than the PPK.

So, let's act like it's Saturday night on the p*ss and get clubbing.

(And just for the record these are OVERPOWERED melee weapons, not ICONIC ones. Sad as it is to say, you're not going to see the likes of Final Fantasy VII's Buster Sword on here as to honest, it's p*ss weak after a few hours of playtime. And no: Gordon Freeman's wrench isn't here either.)

10. DK Hammer - Smash Bros.

Smash Bros. has always been a series that involves a great deal of skill and knowledge of placement in order to get the upper hand. Whether dashing through enemies to launch them off ledges or using the environment to bounce foes into oblivion, it's a game that is much deeper than simply trying to hammer your opponent into submission.

Unless you get the literal hammer power up, that is.

If you are so lucky as to pick up this tent peg thumper, you'll be gifted a glorious eight seconds of near unstoppable pounding (we've all been there right, lads?) which will see you mulch opponents left, right, and centre. With its chaotic amount of knockback and hefty percentage damage, this Mighty Mallet will result in the echoing screams of your opponents as they sail off the sides of the map again and again. And to make matters worse, the cheery music that accompanies this rampage - lifted straight from the original Donkey Kong - makes it all the more terrifying.
