10 RPGs With Ridiculously Weird Stories

7. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

Developer: tri-Ace Platform: PlayStation 2 The premise: For a JRPG series, Valkyrie Profile isn't all that strange. The plot centres around averting a major catastrophe, in order to avert a war between the gods and mortal men. It gets weirder: Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria has a plot filled with outrageous plot twists, with the main one being weird almost beyond comprehension. For starters, the main characters in the game all inhabit a single body. Additionally, not long into the game, a main villain from the original Valkyrie Profile joins the player's party (even though it's meant to be set a few centuries beforehand.) It's later revealed that the game isn't actually taking place centuries before the original game, but is in fact an alternate timeline. The villain had used crazy magic to travel through time, altering history to suit his will. Then, the main character of the first game appears in the new timeline, but as a god, and works together with the new protagonists to defeat the old villain... or something like that.
