2023 is already being called the year of the remake. Some of the best games this year have been titles that have reignited nostalgic fires within gamers and as we look towards the future, there are also plenty more to come.

There may be another, as it turns out.

A user of Famiboards, PikminSnezkov, has reported that they've heard from several sources about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door getting a long-awaited remaster of its own. This has been corroborated with three sources, two of which were able to confirm a release date. The leaker in question, who has some precedence, is hesitant to reveal this until they know for certain.

Nintendo's announced schedule for the second-half of 2023 is looking quite light currently, outside of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, so a rerelease of a classic title could be a way to keep Switch sales figures trucking along. Furthermore, the Paper Mario franchise hasn't had an entry since 2020's Origami King and the series tends to hit around three or four years between releases.

The Thousand Year Door is one of the GameCube's most celebrated titles and, unlike the original Paper Mario, was never made avilable on any previous Nintendo eShop. It's about time it got a second go-around.
