10 Most Satisfying Conclusions In Gaming

8. Into The Sunset - Max Payne 3

Max Payne is easily one of the most put-upon characters in the history of video games. The first game saw his wife and young daughter be murdered in cold blood, while he ended up being framed for the murder of his former DEA partner Alex Balder. After clearing his name, he took on the mysterious Cleaners in the second game, and the only person he had been close to since the death of his family, the sexy Mona Sax, ends up dying at the end of Max Payne 2. Max Payne 3 was controversial for its change of style and locale, as Max (who is now bald and sports a giant beard) resides in São Paulo, Brazil, and is addicted to both painkillers and booze. Things take a turn for the even worse when his boss's wife is kidnapped, and Max finds himself being fired at from all angles. After bringing the whole conspiracy crashing down, Max finally gets the R&R he has deserved for so long, ended up walking off into the sunset in Bahia. Having seen Max suffer through so much, it was genuinely cathartic to see him find some peace in his life. Sure, we'd love to see another MP game, but not if it undoes what feels like exactly the ending Max needed.
