3. Dark Souls - New Londo Ruins

Even after Manus was vanquished prior to the main events of Dark Souls, The Abyss that he spawned still has a foothold within the lands of Lordran. One such place is sealed deep underground underneath Firelink Shrine, and that place is New Londo Ruins.

Like Oolacile, New Londo was once a prosperous city until the four kings who ruled it became influenced by the darkness of the abyss. To stop the void from spreading further the city was flooded, wiping out the inhabitants. Now a desolate ruin covered in shadow, this location instantly gives the impression of an atmospheric and spooky place – which it most certainly is.

Swarming with ghostly apparitions that will appear from the walls of tight corridors, the citizens who remain are less than welcoming to visitors. Moreover, players won’t even be able to damage to these enemies without using a Transient Curse item.

Manage to drain the water and reach the lower levels and your only treat will be a pile of corpses strewn everywhere with much tougher enemies to face.

Plunging down into the eternal blackness of The Abyss can only be seen as a step up from these ruins.
