10 Secret Ways Video Games PUNISH You For Acting Stupid

2. You Softlocked Yourself, Didn't You? - Portal 2

Portal 2
Valve

Portal 2 is the king of cheeky humor, so it shouldn't come off as a surprise that it would immediately make fun of you for doing something dumb.

What is surprising is the extent to which the game is willing to commit to humiliating idiotic behavior.

The fifteenth test chamber is one of the rare locations in the game where the player can accidentally softlock themselves. You get a cube that you're supposed to leave on a button to lower a glass wall blocking the exit, but it's possible to bring it with yourself to the enclosed area, trapping yourself with no means of escaping.

Should this happen, GLaDOS will surprisingly react to your failure. She will tell you to get comfortable with "the being dead position" before resetting the puzzle so that your inept behind can fix this easily avoidable mistake.

The comment, as brutal as it is, is genuinely a surprising attention to detail. It shows that the developers knew the softlock existed, but instead of removing it, they decided to use it to make fun of you.

It's not a bug, it's an excuse to bully you!
