Back when Goldeneye was the darling of the FPS console scene everyone wondered what would follow, and even though an adaptation of The World is Not Enough came to the N64 it didn't reclaim the crown.

That honour went to Perfect Dark, following the exploits of bad ass agent Joanna Dark set in a cyber punk world against enemy henchmen and aliens. Whilst the controls were largely the same, everything else was a big step up in terms of scope and quality.

There was a sequel, but people are still receiving therapy for that one. However, during the interim years, the Timesplitters series happened, and again the similar control scheme was retained, but everything else was bumped up a notch.

The setting branched out too, allowing players to travel across time and space. All of these games singled themselves out as some of the best FPS games on consoles during the 2000s. Sadly, with the exception of an HD remake of Perfect Dark on Xbox Live Arcade and Rare Replay, there's been little action from either party.

There's light at the end of the tunnel; a new Perfect Dark entry was recently announced, as well as a new entry in the Timesplitters series being developed.

For now, keep all your fingers and toes crossed and wish really hard, as these followups have a been a LONG time coming.
