8. That Last Chase In Assassin's Creed III
Oh boy, if it wasnt for series-fatigue setting in like an increasingly dank, slug-infested student kitchen, the diminishing returns were hammered home on AC IIIs final mission. Whilst I wish to stay clear of spoilers even for the sake of AC IIIs threadbare narrative, sufficed to say a stalwart of the franchise is hunting down a fleeing target and plunging your hidden blade into their deserving neck after an arduous chase. It was a great mechanic back in 2006 when the first game demoed to a fervent E3 crowd, all clapping and cheering when main character Altair deftly leapt from an overhead beam and delivered swift steely justice. However with increased sales and mainstream attraction comes the need to step up each game, and with an annual release schedule, ACs gaming mechanics were most definitely showing their age, as we were asked to navigate a crumbling ship chock-full of falling debris and scattered embers. One fail and youre back to the start, never mind once you finally get out the damn thing theres an entire outdoor section too. Next time lets just whip out Leonardo Da Vincis pistol from afar and be done with it.
