10 Terrifying Characters From Non-Horror Video Games

3. Jano - Rayman 2 / Rayman Revolution

Rayman 2 brought everyone's favourite blonde hair, purple shirt and bandana wearing hero to the world of 3D and continued the franchise's cartoon-ish approach to platforming and adventuring around colourful and creative worlds.

For the most part, the game is also filled with comical characters such as Globox or The Teensies. That all changes once Rayman enters the Cave of Bad Dreams however, guarded by the absolutely petrifying Jano who tells the hero that he will grant him a head start, but will show no mercy if he catches up to him.

An evil floating head with long stickly arms, pointy teeth, green skin, a huge eye and an admittedly stylish top hat, Jano chases behind Rayman throughout the Cave of Bad Dreams level, ramping up the tension as you hear the music get louder and the snarling of the baddie getting closer and closer behind you.

The Cave is terrifying enough with its bone bridges, floating skulls, awkward camera angles and challenging design, but Jano's snarling voice and intense pursuit of the player is what really makes this guy, this level and this game stand out.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
