10 Things We Desperately Hope To See In The Mortal Kombat Film
2. Don't Make Kung Lao A Stock Character

Even though a lot of people enjoyed Paul WS Anderson's Mortal Kombat, many characters like Reptile and Scorpion were just... there. We knew nothing about them, and they were practically set dressing.
This sort of problem can happen in any movie simply because it's tricky to flesh out multiple characters and obviously the new Mortal Kombat film is going to focus on some kombatants more than others, but it shouldn't make the same mistake.
Sonya, Jax, and Scorpion will be key players in the new film but it isn't certain how big of a role Kung Lao will play. It's safe to assume we will see the White Lotus ninja dismembering foes a la Oddjob but Kung Lao shouldn't be pure fan-service.
The former Shaolin monk is the ancestor to Great Kung Lao; the only person who ever defeated Goro. Because of this, Kung Lao and Goro have a lot to prove, meaning its likely the hat-hurling warrior will square off against the four-armed brute in the reboot.
If Goro is defeated, there could be a reference to his Shokan tribe needing a successor, which could be a nice way to introduce Kintaro or Sheeva.
