10 Things We Know About PES 2018
5. Konami Are Touting Tunnel Atmosphere
This is an interesting one, because it marks a bit of a departure for Konami from usual PES traditions. In the past, PES has always been about what happens on the pitch. Menu screens and everything else have felt a little old-school next to FIFA's sweeping brand of intuitive menus that look so pleasing on the eye.
For PES 2018, Konami are touting 'tunnel atmosphere' as a big selling point of the game. This basically boils down to pre-match rituals from some of the biggest club sides in the world. Fully-realised versions of Barcelona's tunnel will be featured, alongside Liverpool's infamously narrow staircase that leads onto the Anfield turf.
Sitting alongside this presentation change, there's going to be improved lighting and more of an emphasis on true-to-life TV-style coverage of football. FIFA has had the upper hand in this regard for years now, so it's cool to see Konami start to pay attention themselves.
If only they'd change that commentary. There's only so many times we can hear Peter Drury and Jim Beglin recycle lines heard over a decade ago.
