10 Things You Didn't Know About Super Mario Odyssey

7. Secret Entrance To The Odyssey

Everyone knows how you enter Mario's flagship, right?

You climb the steps, walk onto the cap-red platform, past the globe and press Y or shake your Joy-Con to chuck Cappy and open its doors.

Well, that's true, but the eponymous spaceship actually has another secret entrance which pays homage to one of the most celebrated mechanics from the series' past.

If you head round the back of the ship, you'll see a series of pipes acting as its exhaust system. The largest one's lid has been removed off and is blowing out steam. Jump on the smaller pipes to reach this large one and press ZL, and you'll enter the exhaust as though it were one of the series' iconic green pipes scattered throughout the game's Kingdoms, and find yourself in the Odyssey.

What's not clear is how this gets Mario into the Odyssey - there's certainly no entrance poking out of the other end. But it's a nice additional touch which harks back to the series' roots even as Odyssey strove to bring the franchise forward.

What's more, if you stand on this big pipe long enough, an arrow will appear over the one immediately to the right. Chuck Cappy at it and bam! you'll nab yourself a coin.
