10 Time Murphy's Law Invaded Your Video Game
6. Your Character Auto-Attacks The Wrong Goon
Action games, particularly those in the vein of Batman: Arkham Origins, often face a design quandary: to keep gameplay exciting large numbers of enemies must engaged. This makes the player feel like a proper beast, but it also opens the door wide for some Murphy shenanigans.
Because while nine times out of ten, Batman will be a badass, there’s always the tenth time when the pointy-eared buffoon will leap straight through a crowd of ten, only to lock onto the one person equipped with a shield.
Inevitably the now-staggered Batman will stumble into two successive punches, take a knife to the gut, have an entire assault rag magazine emptied into him and, if he’s not dead yet, be clocked on the head by the bloke with the shield.
All in all, a bad day at the office.
But the Arkham series is not alone. Assassin’s Creed gets in on the act by having that one mistake in a thousand, inevitably, be the error that sees your character turned into a human pincushion as they’re juggled helplessly from one sharp spear point to the next. Even Ezio would lack a witty comeback.
Still, at least you weren't knocked out by Hercule.
