3. Your AI Ally Will Get You Into A War, Then Call A Truce When You're About To Win
AI allies can be a great help: find that rare loyal digital minion – one who genuinely will not stab you in the back – and you will be blessed with a secure flank and, if you’re lucky, welcome reinforcements in crunch battles.
The problem is that the AI, even the best of examples, have no sense of timing. They will happily drag you into a war (that you did not agree to), will do so when you least expect it, and will moan at you for not winning fast enough.
Then, when you have built up your army, fought the enemy to a standstill, and are about to capture that annoying enemy city or planet your AI ‘ally’ will go and sign a peace treaty (which you will have no choice but to agree to).
The result? The enemy AI gets its base back, rebuilds its armies, and fifty turns later you go through the whole rigmarole again.
Still, it is the thought that counts, and even though your bumbling AI friend will play this dumb card over, and over, and over again, and always at the worst possible time, this is one time where Murphy’s sting isn’t quite so bad.
