10 Times Horror Video Games Got Truly Twisted
6. Resident Evil Village - The Baby
When players jump back into the shoes of Ethan Winters for his return to the Resi series, Resident Evil Village bared all the hallmarks of a modern Resident Evil game. Combining a mix of punchy action with classic survival-horror item management and puzzle solving, Village’s opening sections were what fans were expecting from the long-running franchise.
Just when players thought they were getting back into the swing of things, however, Village shook things up by giving players one of the most effective horror sequences in recent years when they ventured to House Beneviento shortly after thwarting the vampiric Lady DImitrescu.
The game’s tone immediately shifts to something more paranormal as players make their way towards the isolated house. Eventually, players find a life-size mannequin of Ethan’s wife Mia in the house's basement and must solve the puzzle surrounding it. All the while, the suspense continues to grow with pitch-perfect pacing.
It’s at this point where the horror comes to a fever pitch and players are greeted with the surprise arrival of a monstrous baby. The creature’s uncanny wails and malformed face is the definition of a Freudian nightmare. However, none of that compares to what happens if it catches you.
