10 Times Music Made A Video Game INCREDIBLE
6. Pokémon Blue & Red - Lavender Town
Some of the games here have incredible orchestral scores, professional musicians and classic hits to turn their most powerful moments up a notch. Pokémon though has to make do with some basic notes, and can still send shivers down your spine.
Pokémon Red & Blue might not have the most complex music of the Pokémon series, but it’s by far the most nostalgic. The battle rhythm, opening sequence, Pallet Town music and Indigo Plateau theme all bring back memories, as does the simple PokéCentre melody. Lavender Town though is something different entirely.
Each place in the game had its own theme, be they town, route or cave. Three gyms in, and they’ve all been riffs on similar themes. Elevator muzak really, only there to distinguish when you’ve crossed a threshold and it’s safe to talk to strangers again without being challenged to a battle.
Lavender Town though is something different entirely. The first major town with no gym, it’s home to a Pokémon graveyard; one which is currently being haunted by the ghost of Marowak. The slow bit, almost wailing music has a theremin feel to it which instantly sets the sinister tone for the place.
