10 Times Video Game Villains Spared You

2. Cesare Borgia - Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

The Assassin's Creed franchise has also had its share of villains, but the best entries in the roster came in the earlier games. Cesare Borgia is Ezio Auditore's arch nemesis, taking on a far more direct role than his father before him and attacking the charismatic assassin head-on.

With a gargantuan army, he invades the protaganist's villa, murders Ezio's uncle Mario and steals the apple of eden for himself. In the chaos however, Ezio is able to escape and live to fight another day. From here, Cesare is in full control of Rome and won't stop until all of Europe falls under his tyrannical rule.

Unfortunately, sparing Ezio proves to be Cesare's undoing as our hero journeys to Rome, puts the assassin brotherhood back together and eventually topples the Borgia family from power. Clearly Cesare's over-confidence and unending desire for power got the better of him here and in climactic final showdown, the villain met his end falling from the battlements of a Spanish castle.

In a brilliant reversal of fortune, slowly dismantling his forces and tackling the antagonist head-to-head still stands as one of the more memorable moments of the franchise. Assassin's Creed as a series hasn't had many developed villains since.
