10 Times Video Games "Did Right By The Fans" (And Pissed Everyone Off)

1. Making The World Too Big - Dragon Age: Inquisition

Halo 5 Cortana
EA

After the phenomenal success of Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II was seen as a colossal let-down by most, largely due to players being confined to the small city of Kirkwall for the entire game, and assets being blatantly recycled throughout, making many environments feel overly familiar.

It was painfully obvious that Dragon Age II had been rushed to market to capitalise on the original's success, and BioWare attempted to address this with threequel Dragon Age: Inquisition by pinging back to a larger, more expansive canvas.

And though Inquisition was a significant improvement over the second game in many key areas, BioWare grossly overcorrected its limited scope by making Inquisition massive to the point of exhaustion.

Though there's a ton of land to explore throughout the game, so much of it feels empty and uninteresting. Sure, it looks nice, but what is there to do? It is symptomatic of BioWare attempting to cash-in on the open-world boom of the mid-2010s and ultimately delivering a depressingly spare world.

It's a literal expression of the phrase "bigger isn't always better."

BioWare reacted so aggressively to the criticisms of Dragon Age II being too small, yet failed to populate Inquisition's world with much of true interest - made even more glaring by the baffling lack of background music throughout the game.
