10 Times Video Games Totally Broke Your Trust

7. Befriending The Grox - Spore

Resident Evil 3
EA

Since Spore is a game targeted at younger audiences, its mechanics are pretty simple and straightforward. However, this doesn't mean that the game can't surprise the older players or make them absolutely hate it for backstabbing them when they least expect it.

The longest and least liked stage of Spore, the space stage, involves the player's species engaging in diplomacy with alien lifeforms. You can make alliances with them, wage wars, or enter into trade agreements. The rules for these engagements work exactly the same for every species in the galaxy except for the Grox, Spore's main antagonists.

Though it's possible to get an alliance with the Grox, the process is very difficult and time-consuming. The evil cyborg empire will have you commit all sorts of atrocities in their name and donate all of your money to them before they even consider you a non-hostile target.

But all this extra effort just means that the alliance will be something amazing, right? Well, the moment you ally with the Grox, every other species in the galaxy will turn hostile and simultaneously declare war on your empire.

That's what you get for believing the game would let you ally with its bad guys without any consequences.
