10 Times Video Games Totally Broke Your Trust

2. Roundtable Hold Attack - Elden Ring

Resident Evil 3
FromSoftware

The Roundtable Hold is a safe hub in Elden Ring, where the tarnished can buy items, upgrade their weapons, and level up. It shares many similarities with the Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls 3, which is why some people might make the mistake of assuming it also doesn't allow hostiles to invade the area. A grave mistake that might cost them a lot of runes and pain.

As it turns out, despite being a safe location, the player can still get invaded at the Roundtable Hold by an NPC character called Ensha. The event triggers after the player acquires the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. Upon returning to the Hold, the place will be shrouded in darkness, all of the NPCs will be gone, and Ensha's red ghost will be waiting to stab your character in the back.

The invasion feels like a complete breach of your privacy. It deprives you of the only relatively safe place in the game, which in turn makes you wonder if there is anything that From Software developers wouldn't mind turning into some kind of elaborate prank at your expense.
