10 Tough-As-Nails Strategy Game Missions That Made You Wave The White Flag
6. The Deacon - Othercide
Othercide, with its bleak visuals, macabre lore, and constant draining sense of having your back to a cliff made of razor-wire is oppressive enough, but the fight against the Deacon is soul-crushingly brutal.
The Deacon’s base attack alone dishes out enough damage to reduce even your toughest daughters to a bloody mess – not good when has the ability to root them to the spot.
Worse, the fight is constructed in phases, with the Deacon gaining new and ever deadlier abilities the more hit-points he loses. Worst of all, as each phase commences, the Deacon jumps up the initiative track, ruining your careful planning and handing him two consecutive turns which, your daughters being fragile by design, will precipitate a massacre.
The key to victory is to interrupt his attacks, but this requires multiple gunslingers, which you will have seen no need to bring due to the, hitherto successful, one-soldier-of-each-class approach. Thus you are saddled with a melee heavy squad which, of course, the Deacon just happens to specialize in.
The game outright warns you of its difficulty, yes, but this? This was just cruel.
