10 Uncomfortable Truths Video Games Force You To Confront

4. Cheaters Always Prosper

008 Video games teach us that cheating is just a part of life, and if you want to get ahead, you might as well do it. Who hasn't loaded up a GTA game and spammed every cheat code they could find? The reason we do it? It's ridiculously fun to mess around in ways that the game's "rules" dictate that you can't. Of course, this is taken to more divisive degrees once we get to online cheating and hacking, as this goes beyond even what the developers prescribe. Still, if the facility is there, someone is going to be prepared to break it, hence why every so often you'll find someone with infinite ammo or the ability to fly while playing Call of Duty. My personal favourite is screen looking; it's an insidious form of cheating that's difficult to detect if only because it relies on a lot of trust and the other players paying attention only to what they're doing. Who hasn't been playing split-screen multiplayer with a friend and had a quick peep at the other screens to find out where they're camping? We all do it, and I imagine most of the time we treat it as basically another radar, not even thinking of it as cheating. Is it lame? Absolutely, but it gets results.
