10 Underused Pokémon You're TOTALLY Wrong About

6. Coalossal

Coalossal is a powerful Rock/ Fire-type Pokémon, its base stats for offence and defence are insane, not to mention it has a base HP level of 110. With the ability to learn a few Grass, Water, Ground and Steel-type moves as well its standard Fire and Rock-types, it proves to be a worthy opponent for almost any Pokémon.

Unfortunately, from a competitive players perspective, Coalossal is useless. With one of the slowest base stats for speed in the entirety of Generation 8, it looks as, on paper, this Pokémon would be evaporated in a competitive match.

Fortunately for Coalossal, there is a hidden ability to remedy this frustrating lack of speed. The ability Steam Engine causes the speed stat to max out if hit with a Fire or Water-type move. The latter is very likely considering Coalossal is a Rock/ Fire-type Pokémon, both of which are extremely weak to Water attacks. If you’re in a competitive doubles match your opponent is most likely aware of this ability and refuses to hit your Coalossal with any Water-type moves.

Having your own Water Pokémon and using Surf, will not only hit both of the opposing Pokémon, but, as it’s an area attack it’ll also hit your Coalossal and activate its hidden ability, making it unstoppable

It’s worth mentioning that giving Coalossal the item Weakness Policy before any battles would be a wise idea. Not only will it dampen the effects when hit by Surf, but it will also add 2 to its attack and special attack stats.
