4. Isle Of Armor + The Crown Tundra - Pokémon Sword/Shield

After 20 years and nearly a thousand Pokemon, it's tough for Nintendo's most lucrative franchise to stay fresh. So, it was no surprise when the eight generation, Pokemon Sword/Shield, was criticised for being stale. Although certain mechanics like the Gigantamaxing was cool, the dual titles just felt like more of the same.

The developers heard these complaints loud and clear and so, remedied many issues in the double expansion pack, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Players had two huge new regions to explore, which were populated with over a hundred Pokemon absent from the base game. Not only did this line-up include new regional versions of pre-existing creatures, a couple of brand-new pocket monsters were thrown into the mix.

Now, adding in a bunch of critters is all well and good, but it doesn't fix the underlying issues Sword/Shield was initially suffering from.

But don't worry - the DLCs got that covered. Pokemon were scaled more accurately, so massive animals like Wailord look suitably humungous. The dynamic weather system was more balanced, meaning players would have more variety in their encounters.

Even though Sword/Shield was berated for its shoddy graphics (especially that infernal tree), these visuals are lush this time around.
