7. Batman: Arkham City - Ending
This was it, the final showdown. You had run-a-mock all over Arkham City, confronted some of your favourite villains, used the grappling hook to death, and discovered some incredible Easter eggs. Finally it is time to face down the most famous villain of all time. He's been poisoned; he's poisoned you, and poisoned Gotham. Now he has one of your many loves, Talia al Ghul, hostage along with your precious cure. You make your way to the Monarch Theatre while simultaneously taking out snipers along the way. You enter the theatre as the Joker tells you to take your seat, (which is ironic considering all the chairs have been ripped out.) As you near the front, Joker kicks Talia to her knees, and then suddenly Talia showcases her master assassin skills. After a quick thrust of Ras al Ghuls sword, the Joker is lying lifeless in front of you. Having the ending spoiled for me, I was already entering this moment with a bittersweet feeling. That was it? Really? That is really how they were going to end this character? Oh how I was wrong. Batman begins retracing the night in his mind and putting everything together, just when he figures it out a gunshot rings out and Talia is dying in Batmans arms. You begin to hear a familiar laugh and you can't help but smile a little bit while your jaw is still dropped from the pure epic-ness of the scene before. I just fell for the ol' fake Joker gag. The Joker appears, looking even more gaunt than usual, and he can't make it through a sentence without a sickly cough. What ensues next is the big reveal that the Joker you have been fighting the entire time is really Clayface in "the role of a lifetime!" You battle him, and his little clay army, until he is frozen solid. Once Clayface was out of the way, the Joker standing above the Lazarus pit, thought he would take his shot at immortality. Batman throws a well-placed sword that destroys the Lazarus pit, destroys any chance the Joker has at immortality, and nearly takes the entire building down. Batman wakes up in a daze as the voice of the Joker circles him, taunting him for the cure. If only he hadn't made the next move, he might have seen a three-quel. The Joker jumps out of nowhere, stabbing Batman which results in him dropping the cure. The Joker desperately tries to lap it up but the damage is done. Batman reveals to the Joker he would have saved him, and the Joker fittingly laughs himself into the dark abyss, dying with a smile on his face. Your jaw will continually be dropped as the credits role, and you might just shed a tear as the Joker sings Only You in creepy acapella fashion. Only Batman can make you feel sad when killing off the main bad guy and it still stings a little to this day.
