7. Jackie Estacado (The Darkness 2)
As a contract killer for the Italian mafia, Jackie Estacado may have deserved a lot of the terrible things that happened to him throughout the course of the first game. For instance, we know that hes killed a lot of people, some of which were likely entirely innocent. We also know that hes been involved in crime since the tender age of twelve. But knowing any of this information doesnt prevent Jackie from being an incredibly sympathetic character with a motivation we can all easily understand: revenge. At the end of the first game, Jackie is told by The Darkness that he will be taken over if he takes the life of his uncle Paulie. He gets told rather explicitly Take his life so that I can take yours. Knowing this, Jackie decides to pull the trigger anyway. Fast forward five years to the release of The Darkness 2, I was honestly expecting Jackie to be the new antagonist. After all, his story was complete, he had gotten his revenge and forfeited his humanity in the process. I was expecting a Luke Skywalker/Vader type thing with The Darkness selecting a new host to overthrow Jackie and take up his mantle. Sadly that didnt happen, with Jackie remaining the same spine-ripping maniac he was beforehand - however that only gives him real potential on the opposite side of the fence if they ever make The Darkness 3.
