10 Unnecessary Video Games So Bad You Forgot They Existed
2. Nosgoth
At time of writing, it's been sixteen years since we've last had a Legacy of Kain game. Defiance was the last proper offering in 2003, which left the fate of the world of Nosgoth slightly ambiguous.
There was an attempt to revive the vampire/time-travel series with Dead Sun, but that came to nothing. Even then, that looked like a bit of a radical departure from what we know, but sometimes you've got to try these things...
What nobody anticipated, or even wanted, was a spin-off MMO based on the warring vampire clans of Nosgoth. Whilst the main series did include vampires/spirits as their protagonists, the other vampires were more ancillary, called upon as plot devices when required.
The negative initial reception didn't initially ward of Psyonix, as an open beta was launched in early 2015. But the fans were armed with vitriol and garlic, driving a stake through the metaphorical heart of the game and it died (or re-died, whatever) a year later.
The message was clear: give us a main game that carries on the Legacy, not this madness.
