5. Mortal Kombat
People play Mortal Kombat to rip spines out of other people's bodies and crush vital organs in their hands. No one tunes into the latest instalment of the series to learn about Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage's personal drama. Most players don't even need a reason to be told to go and smack someone across the head, other than the fact that they are standing on the opposite side of the screen.
They tried to make a Mortal Kombat movies before, and this was the exact problem - there was no foundation to build off of.
Sure, there were characters and they had personality, but no fan wants to see that. They want to see gratuitous violence. Why on earth would they watch a movie to see that when they have the game?
The movie would need to offer something that the game doesn't. The violence and gore could be spectacular and phenomenal, but you can't have that as the entire movie. There needs to be other stuff; stuff that the franchise doesn't have.
