The Story: After aliens misinterpret a time capsule containing some famous arcade games, they launch an attack on Earth modelled after these classics, forcing the President to recruit his friend Adam Sandler, a former arcade champion, to stop them.

Why It Could Be Amazing: Adam Sandler is not so much a bad actor as he picks bad movies to star in. Conversely, Kevin James is not a good actor, but having him play the President is so ridiculous that it kind of works. Plus their work can hopefully be reined in by director Chris Columbus, the man behind all of your favourite childhood movies like The Goonies, Home Alone and Harry Potter.

Though the film is not adapting a singular game, its unique way of integrating the likes of Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Frogger, and Donkey Kong to name a few, represents exactly the type of creative spin that could finally see a video-game-based movie succeed.

It’s a fascinating take on the material with nicely nostalgic feel. So long as they don’t stick to lowest-common-denominator type humour, seeing Adam Sandler somehow fight Tetris blocks could be awesomely entertaining.
