The Story: Sam Fisher, an NSA black ops specialist and the titular splinter cell, works from the shadows as he completes impossible missions for the President to keep his country safe.
Why It Could Be Amazing: The “Third Echelon” that Fisher works for operates in stealth, while typical blockbuster movies deal in giant explosions and action scenes. The notion of creating a blockbuster whose set pieces centre around stealth could be amazing, like something in the vein of a more subdued Mission: Impossible.
Ubisoft, the developer of the game, is heavily involved in making the film happen. They have no experience in this field so they could have no idea what they’re doing, or it could turn out like a Marvel scenario, where their films work because they already have such a strong grasp of what makes the games successful.
Beyond all of that, the real reason that the movie oozes promise is its lead, one of the most intense actors working today, Tom Hardy. And not only that, he’s spoken often about how passionate he is for the project, and with a director like Doug Liman attached, this could be a real action hit.
