10 Upcoming Video Game Movies That Could Actually Be Amazing
2. Assassin's Creed
The Story: Using a futuristic technology, chosen individuals can relive the memories of their ancestors, chronicling the ongoing war between the Assassins and the Templars throughout iconic historical periods as they fight for a series of magical artifacts.
Why It Could Be Amazing: This is Michael Fassbender’s passion project. As such, he’s recruited his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard. Macbeth has drawn rave reviews so far and no one needs to be told what talents Fassbender and Cotillard are.
Beyond the award-winning actors, the appeal of the movie is that they can cherry-pick the best aspects from the games' long-winded and convoluted plot and still tell an original story. This is exemplified in the rumoured plot of the movie, which would see an new story following a convict exploring the memories of his ancestor during the Spanish Inquisition.
Like Splinter Cell, Ubisoft is behind this one as well, so it holds the same potential for success and failure. It’s the little tidbits of information, however, are really turning this into something worth looking forward to, like their desire to focus on the real science behind experiencing memory, or adding Michael K. Williams to the mix. So far, all the signs look right for Assassin's Creed.
