10 Upcoming Video Games In HUGE Trouble
5. System Shock 3
The long-awaited third entry into the beloved System Shock series was finally, finally announced in 2015, and though several well-received trailers have been released, by early 2020 the project was said to be in dire straits.
Reports stated that the game's entire dev team had been let go and the title was "critically behind," with developer OtherSide Entertainment later confirming that Chinese tech-entertainment conglomerate Tencent had acquired the rights to System Shock 3.
This past August, Nightdive Studios, who are currently working on the remake of the original System Shock, confirmed Tencent's ownership of the third game, while suggesting that it was entirely up to Tencent whether development on the game continued or not.
Given Tencent's silence on System Shock 3 and the fact that System Shock co-creator Warren Spector hasn't had any involvement with the game since 2019, it's looking incredibly unlikely that it will ever see the light of day, sadly.
And even if it does, with so much developmental rejigging, is there much chance it actually lives up to its two acclaimed predecessors?
