1. Gears Of War - Mad World
Many think that this trailer for the first Gears of War is the best game trailer ever made. While I will leave that to you to decide, there is plenty to talk about here. While you could perhaps argue it is a little emotionally manipulative, that doesn't mean it is not effective. Seeing a fallen world, crushed to dust and overrun with invaders who have destroyed what once was, to the sound of Gary Jules - Mad World is pretty heart rending stuff. But perhaps one of the great things about the trailer is that it is actually fairly representative of the game. Okay, there are a few exceptions. Of course, Gears of War is team-based and not once in the franchise were you running around a city alone. You also don't see any of the chest high wall cover based shooting that the game has become synonymous with. However, other than that, I think it is a great trailer for the game that you will be buying. Now, you could argue the the game never truly hits these kinds of emotions in the first game, but I have a problem with that assumption. I think it does, the story of a lost world, the lost life, the "destroyed beauty" is prevalent in the game through its art design and level design. The trailer was clearly designed in the Unreal 3 engine, making the trailer more or less graphically accurate to the final product as well. All of the Gears of War trailers are cinematic and I could have put many others on here, but few showcase the game as well as put a spotlight on the desolated world where the game takes place in as well as this one.
